Hi, I'm Sara. My background is in special education and child development, and I have spent years working alongside therapists and the families they support. I know that toy safety sits in an awkward gap in your training - it affects your clients directly, but it is not explicitly covered in safeguarding or other training packages. I have a PhD, but I don't think anyone needs a degree to see how standard age-label guidance falls short for the children with complex disabilities, who are most likely on your caseload. Through ToyScope, I translate the regulatory frameworks and the developmental research into something you can use in your practice. I'm looking forward to the session and to answering the specific questions you bring.

This webinar is specifically designed for play therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, and other clinicians who use toys and play materials in therapeutic settings. I have created separate events for educators and families to address their unique challenges.
The content is tailored to therapeutic contexts where the goal is often to work just outside a child's comfort zone. We'll address how to maintain safety while still creating the necessary therapeutic challenge, including considerations for regression and emotional dysregulation that are common in therapeutic processes.
All registered participants will receive access to the recording of the main presentation for 30 days after the event. Recording will include the main presentation only, I will not be recording the Q&A session.
You will just need a device with internet access and Google Meets installed or accessible via browser. No special materials are required, though having a notepad might be useful.
The first 60 minutes will be presentation-based with some interactive elements. The final 30 minutes are dedicated to your questions and specific challenges. You can submit questions via chat or Q&A function during the session.
Yes, it is 100% free. I believe that learning about safety must be accessible to everyone because it is essential, not a luxury.

Toy safety is a dynamic process, rather than a single rule. Each child, family, space, toy and situation is different, so I am not teaching rules, but skills for making safety decisions in a moment. Join me in training your risk-aware eyes, supportive hands and trusting heart.
